ALBtelecom in cooperation with the Italian partner Telecom Italia Sparkle have presented in a press conference their program on the capacity of optical line Bari-Durres increase up to 20 Gbps broadcast, which means 8 times higher than the existing capacity (2.5Gbps). Meanwhile this network allows the capacity increase up to 80 Gbps.

Attending the conference were the General Director of ALBtelecom and Eagle Mobile, Dr. Orhan Coşkun the General Director of Telecom Italia Sparkle (TIS), Mr. Paolo Ferrari, the Minister of Innovation and Information Technology, Mr. Genc Pollo and the Chairman of AKEP, Mr. Piro Xhixho.

The General Director of ALBtelecom and Eagle Mobile,   Dr. Orhan Coşkun stressed that this was an important event for ALBtelecom and Eagle Mobile. By providing a clear picture of the large investments and increased service capacity, Mr. Coşkun emphasized that every investment aims to increase the subscribers’ satisfaction and provide service with very reasonable prices.

Meanwhile, the General Director of Telecom Italia Sparkle (TIS), Mr. Paolo Ferrari, said that for TIS, ALBtelecom is a very important partner, as due to its strategic position Albania plays an important role for the region as well, connecting Italy with neighboring countries like Greece, Montenegro and Macedonia and beyond. TIS provides international services in the Mediterranean, North Africa, Middle East, Turkey, Greece, Albania, etc.

Minister Pollo welcomed this very important initiative, undertaken in a timely manner. "I think we have taken a key step for further developments. We congratulate ALBtelecom and its partner TIS, co-owners of trans-Adriatic line, on the very important capacity increase of this line, which will provide supply to all users, with good quality and good price.

As Chairman of AKEP, Mr. Piro Xhixho described the signing of this agreement as an extraordinary achievement of ALBtelecom. "In the recent years ALBtelecom has undoubtedly taken steps that directly affect the market. The market entry of Eagle Mobile was a great success for the change of prices and the new offers. I congratulate ALBtelecom that managed to make a significant reversal.

This capacity increase will provide better quality internet services in Albania, Global Internet connection through a “First Tier Supplier, qualified services for ISP (Internet service provider) in the country, opportunity to provide ISP services of the neighboring countries, etc.

This process, supported by the investments of ALBtelecom in the national network of Optic Fibers, will also enable the provision of international leased lines services and will better support 'Cloud Computing' services as well.

TIS and ALBtelecom will also join forces to support the quality services of “Data Center Respective”.

It is worth mentioning that ALBtelecom is conducting serious investments in infrastructure to meet the needs of national development and further economic growth.

ALBtelecom, since a year ago has increased through its investments the capacity of global Internet connectivity from 7.5 Gbps to 12.5 Gbps and soon, this capacity will go to 20 Gbps.

 

 

The project for Backbone Optic Fibers National Network is conceived in two parts, where the first part provides increased capacity for all existing backbone lines, which in total go up to more than 500-km-long optical fiber. So far it is realized about 70% of the total implementation of this project.

Meanwhile, the second part of the project includes construction of new backbone interurban lines in Albania. In this second phase it is anticipated the construction of an 800-km optical fiber network, where more than 85% of the project is implemented.

This project aims to increase the capacity of the main network, creating connection points with neighboring states and increasing the quality of service.

In four years, after the privatization of ALBtelecom, are constructed 1500 km cables in total.
