ALBtelecom joins UN Women global initiative to empower women
ALBtelecom, the largest telecommunication corporation in Albania, signed the membership of in the Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs), a global gender equality initiative promoted by UN Women and the UN Global Compact. To announce this novelty to the public an event was organized at ALBtelecom Academy.
Having a long history in the marketplace ALBtelecom has shown over the years a continuous commitment to promoting women in their work environments, thus setting inspiring records in the efforts for gender equality throughout the industry.
Currently at ALBtelecom 61% of employees are women and 43% hold leadership roles in the most important sectors of the company. ALBtelecom itself is led by a woman, marking an historic moment for the industry itself.
In the speech held during the event, the CEO of ALBtelecom Mrs. Bilgen Aldan expressed her pride for leading a company which offers concrete evidence of promoting women in the workplace and invited all business environment actors to consider gender equality as an incentive towards mutual success.
Also present at the event was the representative of UN Women Albania Mr. Michele Ribotta, who stressed the key role that ICT companies such as ALBtelecom can play in bridging the existing gender digital divide, by supporting greater access of women and girls to skills, services and jobs in the digital economy.
Deputy Mayor of Tirana, Mrs. Anisa Ruseti, invited as a guest speaker, pointed out the pay gap between men and women, and expressed support of the municipality in further advancing the policies in support of gender issues.
WEPs signatories commit to fostering business practices that empower women and accelerate gender equality in the workplace, marketplace and community.
